On this page you can learn about the various manuscripts in our western medieval collection that relate to grammar.

MS 152
MS 152 comprises several originally separate manuscripts, variously produced in England from the twelfth century onwards. It includes various works on grammar including Priscian’s ‘Institutiones minores’.

MS 154
MS 154 was produced in England in the eleventh century. It is a broadly contemporary copy of grammatical works by Ælfric of Eynsham (d. c. 1010) and his namesake, Ælfric Bata, who would also appear to have been his pupil. Two of our blog posts have focused on this extraordinary manuscript (2016, 2020).

MS 184
MS 184 includes various texts relating to grammar and rhetoric. This manuscript was produced in England in the fifteenth century by a scribe named ‘Wylton’, perhaps connected to Oxford.
